5 Minute Mojo

In this lesson, your child meets the Duck and the Secret Letter “D”. Duck is the Explorer of the Pride and flies all around the world. It’s her job to explore the Pride and learn about us, the People of the planet. She informs the animals of the Pride about the People and how global citizenship and respect for others starts deep within everyone. Watch the “Secret Letter D” video and try to play any of the online games available in the digital library.
Teaching Tip:

Literacy learning is a process that defies any streamlining, so try not to force your child into hurrying a certain process. Maybe your child has trouble pronouncing a certain letter, and that is quite normal. Simply continue to work through pronunciation and recognition together, constantly sounding out words and sounds and exposing your child to vocabulary with that letter. The results will come!

Momspirations:

“I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.” Nelson Mandela

Activities
Duck Duck Goose – It’s a time-tested game, still fun today! Sit in a circle and the person who is “it” taps the heads of the seated players, saying “duck….duck…” until they choose a “goose” for the chase! The “goose” chases the person who is “it” around the circle and tries to catch them. This is a classic, active game that will also help your child learn to speak the word “duck” and the letter “d”.

Healthy Snack
Global Cheese and Quackers- In learning about global citizenship and people of the world, you can also introduce your child to global awareness and diversity through food. Bring your child to the cheese section of the supermarket and pick out a special cheese or two to try. Maybe mozzarella, from Italy? Queso fresco from Mexico? Make your “cheese and quackers” snack an international experience, and talk about where they come from!
