5 Minute Mojo

One last day to celebrate!! You and your child have made it through the entire iKnow adventure! Pat yourselves on the back, dance around the room, cut a slice of cake — whatever you want to do to celebrate this success together! The quest to reunite the animals of the Sunmoona Pride may be over, but the challenge of learning literacy has only just begun. Ask your child what his or her favorite books or videos were, and go back to enjoy those together once more. Talk about your child’s new animal friends and keep them engaged with the Legend to maintain the magic of the journey they completed. Show your child how proud you are by rewarding them with praise, love, and support, and don’t forget to keep visiting the Sunmoona Pride together. Time to claim your last Pride Point and celebrate your adventure together!

Teaching Tip:

Congrats to you, parents! You yourself have accomplished a huge job by going through the early literacy process with your child. Your love, support, and empathy are the most important things of all. As your child continues to learn, remember that staying positive and encouraging is the greatest gift you can give your child. You are your child’s first and best teacher.

Activities
My Favorite Animal- Go back through the eBooks, videos, and/or online activities and ask your child to find the animal and letter they like the most. Give them crafts like paper, markers, felt, pompoms, etc., and ask them to create an art project about his or her favorite animal from the Sunmoona Pride. Ask your child why that animal (and letter) is the favorite. Then, explore that animal with your child together online. Look for other about that animal books in your local library. Look up pictures of that animal in National Geographic or other wildlife publications. This way, you can help your child explore and indulge in curiosity!

Healthy Snack
Party Popcorn- Popcorn is always a fun snack that gives off a celebratory vibe. Shy away from prepackaged popcorn bags, which contain a lot of bad oils and trans-fats. Instead, buy whole kernels by the bag and pop them in your own stovetop pot! Add a tablespoon of neutral oil and ⅓ cup of kernels to a nonstick soup pot over high flame. Shake the pot around to cover the kernels in oil, and shake gently on occasion to keep the kernels from burning. With little effort, you’ll have fresh popcorn in about three minutes! Pour the popcorn into a bowl, and sprinkle with salt or any other spices you might enjoy (sugar and cinnamon make delicious kettle corn, and rosemary and pepper make a good savory combo). Add some dried fruit, coconut flakes, or other festive additions to make it even more special!
