5 Minute Mojo

On the last day in the Rainforest habitat, your child will learn the Secret Letter “I” for Iguana. The Iguana is the Investigator of the Pride. Children can investigate the importance of the weather, water, and wind with the help of Iguana. Return to the second book, watch “The Secret Letter I,” and enjoy the music from the iKnow album. If you haven’t done so, print some of the resources from the Activities page — these will help refresh what your child learned in Level 2. Once finished, go back
Teaching Tip:

Reading also means making noise! Phonemic Awarenessis a fancy way of saying “Auditory Understanding,” and it is absolutely essential in learning to read. Did you know that there are only 26 letters in the English alphabet, but over 40 sounds? When you are learning new words with your child, remember to sound them out clearly, separate sounds of certain letters, and encourage your child to make the sounds back to you.

Momspirations:

“Happiness lies in the joy of achievement and the thrill of creative effort.” Franklin D. Roosevelt

Activities
I Spy – Iguanas are the Investigator, and a simple activity like “I Spy” will help your child test their own investigative powers, too! Play “I Spy” with colors, shapes, or any other concept that your child might be learning in school. Then, play “I Spy” in the iKnow books! You can look at the pictures together and hunt for the animals. This is a good way to help your child practice the names of the animals he or she is meeting on the Challenge.

Healthy Snack
Kale Chips- Iguanas are herbivores and love to eat healthy greens. Your child will love to act like an iguana with this crunchy, healthy snack. Take a bunch of lacinato kale, remove the tough stems and slice in small strips. Toss the small “chips” in some olive oil and sea salt, then spread on a baking tray. Bake at 300 degrees for about 10 minutes, checking to make sure the chips don’t burn.
